Renowned vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia won Canada’s prestigious Juno Award for World Music Album of the Year last night. Her album is titled Aam Zameen: Common Ground, released on her independent label, Kiran Music in Canada and Avokado Artists Recordings in the United States, Europe & Australia.
Aam Zameen: Common Ground is a step onward in the evolution of a musician who, while firmly rooted in Indian music, is continually embracing sounds and influences from around the world. The recording features collaboration with legendary Tuareg desert blues group Tinariwen and fellow Tuareg tribesmen Terakaft, as well as Ghanaian ritti player Juldeh Camara and Justin Adams (Tinariwen, Robert Plant) who along with New York jazz guitarist Rez Abbasi co-produced the record.
