The 2nd annual The Gaia Festival will be held August 3rd, 4th, 5th, at the beautiful Black Oak Ranch in Laytonville, California, one of Northern California’s most loved concert venues.
Some of the acts announced for 2012 include Michael Franti and Spearhead, known for mixing rock, rap, reggae, soul and other styles; internationally acclaimed Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars; Hot Buttered Rum, a plugged-in, percussive powerhouse of left-coast rock mixed with jazz, country, and world music; Dumpstaphunk, described as New Orleans’ best funk band; Baka Beyond , one of the finest danceable bands, creating the sound of the global village with an uplifting and seamless blend of African rhythm and Celtic melodies.
Also included are Sambada, Santa Cruz-based Afro-Brazilian collective; David Lindley, magic carpet ride skittering around the globe offering vivid glimpses of Jamaica, the Mississippi Delta, Madagascar, Turkey and Cuba; Afromassive , the hottest new experimental fury of afrobeat/funk-inspired and electronically fueled grooves west of the Mississippi; Fanna-Fi-Allah Sufi Qawwali Ensemble, bringing the magic of Pakistan music to the West; and Clan Dyken, a powerful, danceable boogie pulse with a certain funky-punkness. More acts will be announced.
The festival is only a three hour drive north of San Francisco and two hours south of Arcata. Black Oak Ranch is home to the Hog Farm and Camp Winnarainbow — a circus camp for kids, and has hosted many world-class events over the years including Earthdance – The Global Festival For Peace.
