India.Arie & Idan Raichel Concert at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Dedication Ceremony

The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation has invited GRAMMY award-winning artist India.Arie and musician Idan Raichel to perform this Sunday, August 28th as part of the pre-dedication ceremony for the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

This dedication will mark the end of a week of ceremonial events in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and social equality. Other entertainers performing throughout the week include Aretha Franklin, Bebe Winans, Jennifer Hudson, Al Green, and Jamie Foxx.

Sunday’s event will include speeches from leaders and special guests who have had a particularly strong impact in the global search for peace such as Andrea Mitchell, NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent; Dr. Suzan Johnson Cook, Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom; Ebrahim Rasool, Ambassador to the United States from South Africa; Ambassador Ron Kirk, United States Trade Representative; and Madeleine Albright, former United States Secretary of State.

India.Arie and Idan Raichel will be releasing the album Open Door later this year. Open Door delivers themes of acceptance and unity that lay the foundation for an impassioned body of work. This penetrating collection forges cultural divides and exemplifies the raw power of open, simple production.

Arie has found in Raichel a self-described “musical soul mate” who breathes new life into her signature brand of raw, empowered soulful R&B/pop/folk music. Open Door is a stunning array of effortlessly blended styles that Arie describes as, “the most authentic musical expression of my life thus far.” The authentic East-meets-West experience features minimal production; piano, percussion, strings, winds, and multilingual lyrics sung in English and Hebrew.
