The legendary film director Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking band are scheduled to perform in London on Saturday, November 19th, 2011 at Royal Festival Hall in London as part of The London Jazz Festival. Kusturica will bring a wild collision of gypsy, punk and rock music from right across the Balkans.

Many of Kusturica’s early films such as Underground and In The Time of Gypsies were scored by Goran Bregovic, but with his film Black Cat, White Cat, Kusturica seized the reins, creating the score, playing guitar and fronting the No Smoking Orchestra.

The No Smoking band was established in Sarajevo in 1980 and soon became key proponents of New Primitivism, a cultural resistance movement created in the transition years of post-Tito Yugoslavia.
