The Bowery Presents An Evening with Seu Jorge and Almaz on Friday, July 30 at Terminal 5 as they make their second New York City appearance during their 2010 Summer U.S. tour promoting their new album Seu Jorge And Almaz. Here is a sneak peek at a live show at the Festival of World Cultures, Ireland in 2008.
This project started as a collaboration between friends on a track for a Walter Salles film. However the chemistry was so profound for this bunch that they stayed on in the studio and continued recording more tracks that inspired them. Songs famous within the Brazilian diaspora (Tim Maia, Jorge Ben) mesh with classic American (Roy Ayers, Michael Jackson) and European (Kraftwerk, Cane and Abel) soul songs with a bit of psychedelic samba. If Jorge’s past collaborations are any indication, this album is going to be a must-have for all you Brazilian Soul fans out there.
Almaz is made up of Brazilian superstar Seu Jorge, bassist and composer Antonio Pinto (featured on soundtracks for blockbusters such as City of God), drummer Pupillo and guitarist Lucio Maia (both from afro-Brazilian band Nação Zumbi). Once the project was established, Mario C. (Beastie Boys) was brought on board to help with the final touches on the album.

It’s a shame his North American tour has ended. Thankfully, he will be in England very soon though, which is even better! Can’t wait!
