The story of the seven young Zimbabwean musicians from the Victoria Falls who were denied visas to enter Europe earlier this summer has taken a new turn and this time, for the better. On the 22nd of October Mokoomba will finally touchdown on European soil. They will participate in the European Union’s European Development Days in Stockholm. More Mokoomba dates will be announced soon.
Mokoomba have come a long way since first entering a local festival round of Music Crossroads in Zimbabwe. The local win took them onwards to National and InterRegional Music Crossroads festival rounds, where they climbed the rungs of the musical ladder until reaching their dream – 1st prize at the 2008 Music Crossroads InterRegional Festival in Lilongwe, Malawi. The group then went through an intensive training yearlong training supervised by professional manager Poney Gross and recorded a six-track album. Mokoomba now has huge following in Zimbabwe, and was featured at the 2009 Zimbabwe International Film Festival (ZIFF)!
