The Wisconsin Union Theater announced that the 2009 Madison World Music Festival will be held from Thursday, September 17 to Saturday, September 19. The first two days of the festival will take place at the Memorial Union and other campus venues. On Saturday it moves to the East Side’s Willy Street Fair for a full day of performances.
Ending the festival will be a ticketed concert at the Wisconsin Union Theater, presenting the Drepung Loseling Monks with the Mystical Arts of Tibet. The performance will be held on Saturday, September 19, at 8 pm and will end a five-day residency by the monks, who will build and dismantle a Mandala at the Union’s Main Lounge.
The Madison World Music Festival Artistic Selection Committee is considering artists from many parts of the world, including Somalia, the Solomon Islands, Italy, Turkish Kurdistan, Romania, Argentina, Inuit Canada and many more.
This year the festival will hold a competition for T-shirt art design. Details will be announced soon.
