Across The Divide, New Recording by Cuban Keyboardist Omar Sosa

Half Note Records will Omar Sosa Sextet’s latest CD, Across The Divide: A Tale of Rhythm & Ancestry on March 24 of 2009. Across The Divide is a song cycle highlighting the shared rhythms and ancestry of Cuban pianist Omar Sosa and New England multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Tim Eriksen, a specialist in native and adopted American musics.

Across The Divide is a narrative, a tale of musical and spiritual passage, drawn from the roots of our common cultures. It is a folkloric music illuminating the slave traditions of the Middle Passage and yielding a pathfinding hybrid – Latin Jazz, augmented by electronics and with World and Americana influences.

A North American tour to promote the new album will begin in March. The line-up will be Omar Sosa (piano), John Santos (percussion), Childo Thomas (bass), Peter Apfelbaum (saxophones), and at the Blue Note dates only, Tim Erikson (vocals, banjo)
