Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 Make West coast Debut at Grand Performances’ California Plaza

The youngest son of Nigerian world music icon Fela Kuti will be performing at Grand Performances’ California Plaza  Friday, June 20 at 8 pm. Seun Kuti continues his father’s Afro beat sound with the original and legendary Egypt 80.

Seun Kuti has been leading his late father’s band Egypt 80 since he was 15 years old. His performances have been called “spellbinding”. His movements and vocal intonations seem to channel his father’s very essence on stage. Blend in Egypt 80’s pungent blend of funk and jazz with a Nigerian sensibility – reminiscent of James Brown but grittier – and one is wrapped in an explosive, irresistible musical force that gets you out of your seat and sweating on the dance floor.
