On Saturday, June 21st, S.O.B.’s Concerts presents Brazilian fusion superstars, O Rappa, live in concert at the Fillmore New York, direct from Rio de Janeiro. Mixing the sounds of Samba with Drum n’ Bass, Funk, Reggae and Rock, O Rappa gained popularity in Brazil and garnered international media attention with lyrics of protest against police brutality, poverty, corruption and other social issues plaguing the Rio de Janeiro. In a review of their last New York concert, The New York Times’ Jon Pareles likened them to fellow protest rockers, Rage Against the Machine. O Rappa returns to Irving Plaza for their first New York concert in over two years.O Rappa has won several MTV music video awards in Brazil including “Best of the Year”, “Best Photography”, and “Best Direction”. In July 2007 O Rappa performed for the Live Earth Concert in Rio de Janeiro Brazil to help combat global climate change. They have also performed for MTV Unplugged in Brazil and in 2003 they released their most recent album O Silêncio Q Precede o Esporro (The Silence Before the Blast).
