Singer-songwriter Athena will release her fast-rising debut album Breathe With Me on April 7 through Embraceable Records. Originally available in Spring 2007, the critically acclaimed album features two new additional tracks and will be followed by the single release of “Pretty Things” on April 14 and a headline performance at London’s The Pigalle on April 29. In addition, Athena has been chosen as one of four artists in an exclusive series of documentaries exploring the musical influences of leading musicians in contemporary folk music. Entitled ‘My Music’, the series, in partnership with the Arts Council England, launches on Channel 5 on April 6 and will be narrated by Tom Ravenscroft, son of legendary Radio One DJ John Peel. Athena Andreadis was born in London and raised in Greece; the two cultures coexisting through her upbringing. She inherited her singing talent from her Greek mother, but, always bilingual, listened as much to rock, classical and jazz as she did to the traditional Greek songs.
Athena‘s music has its roots are in Greek traditional music and its conception encompasses other cultures and musical styles. A distinctive voice, with blends with the Greek pontiaki lyra, daf, guitar and double bass, flamenco guitar elements, cello lines, and atmospheric samples. This blend of cultures, passions and colors is energetic, powerful and genuinely moving.
