New World Music Venue in Madrid: World Music Saturdays at Colonial

A new live music venue opens in Madrid, beginning in October 2007 at Colonial Club. World Music Saturdays brings together eclecticism and quality. "Our aim is to keep those hallmarks from the beginning,’ say presenters Araceli Tzigane and Juan Antonio Vázquez . The club is located at Paseo de la Florida s/n, in the historic train station of Príncipe Pío, which was renovated recently.

13th October
Transarabian Connection
Origin: Spain / Morocco / Uruguay
Style: Progressive raï

King Crimson playing at an Algerian café in the 40’s… Guitar player Ángel Ontalva meets brilliant Spanish and Moroccan musicians to explore unprecedented connections between progressive rock and Arabic sounds.

Line-up: Ángel Ontalva (guitar), David Mayoral (percussion), Abdesselam Chakkour (voice & percussion), Fran Mangas (sax), Amanda Pazos (bass), Víctor Rodríguez (keyboard), Jesús Sánchez ‘El Choko’ (drums).

Hexacorde y Vanesa Muela
Origin: Spain
Style: New music for traditional rhythms

Representing the most fascinating new Spanish folk scene: brilliant young singer Vanesa Muela and skilful band Hexacorde.

Line-up: Vanesa Muela (voice, traditional & kitchen percussions), Álvaro Aguilar (dulzaina, flute, xaphoon, cajón, drums & percussions), Víctor Rionegro Queijo (electric bass), Rafa Alonso (flutes, dulzaina, bagpipe & percussions), Ángel Goyanes (cittern, acoustic guitar & percussions), Fernando Llorente (clarinet, gaita charra & drum), Héctor López (jembe, darbuka, drums, percussions & clarinet).

Mad Sensi
Origin: Spain / USA / Cuba / France
Style: Reggae

The parallel project of one of the most important Spanish reggae bands: Cañamán. They’ve worked with the best reggae voices from three continents for their first album, Power plant.
Line-up: Arnaldo Lescay (drums), Edward Patrick Morse (bass), Kuko (voice & guitar), Yamel Romero (keyboards & sax), Carlos Bratt (voice & guitar).

All concerts at 22:30. Price: 12 euros (drink included), except the 6th October: free admission + one free drink, with invitation.
