Due to the cancellation of the Mahotella Queens performance the line-up for Afrofest 2007 will now also include Lura, the rising star from Portugal (of Cape Verdian origin), and former back up singer and heir apparent to the great "barefoot diva", Cesaria Evora. Her latest release in November 2006, and second for Lusafrica, is M’Bem Di Fora (I’ve Come From Far).
Afrofest 2007 will be broadcast live from Queen’s Park on CBC Radio One 99.1’s Big City Small World on Saturday from 5 – 6 pm from the main stage with host Garvia Bailey. CBC Radio 94.1 will be recording during the festival for Canada Live. Music Africa and Harbourfront Centre present two concerts leading up to the Afrofest weekend at Queen’s Park. Friday June 29th will feature the new Afrobeat superstar Seun Kuti, playing with his father Fela’s famous Egypt 80 Band, and the Official Launch of Afrofest on Thursday July 5th is a concert by Malian kora virtuoso Toumani Diabate‘s Symmetric Orchestra.
