Liu Fang Releases Emerging Lotus – Chinese traditional guzheng music

Montreal, Canada – World music label Philmultic has announced the release of Liu
Fang’s guzheng solo album: Emerging Lotus – Chinese traditional guzheng music.
This album is especially striking as it presents the celebrated
Liu Fang, acknowledged master of the Pppa, now shining brightly in her mastery
of another Chinese instrument, the guzheng.
In this collection she has taken some of the gems of both
classical and folkloric modes and given them a personal expression
that is both original yet well grounded in a traditional musical base. What
makes this album all the more valuable is the essay on the guzheng by the
renowned ethnomusicologist and sinologist, Lucie Rault (Musee de I’Homme, Paris)
including the very fine translations in both English and French of some great
and relevant classic poems from the Chinese language.
