Summerstage 2015 to Present Three Leading Cape Verdean Roots Artists

The Cesária Évora Orchestra, Mayra Andrade and Dino D’Santiago are set to perform on Sunday, July 12 at SummerStage in Central Park, New York City at 14:00 (2:00pm). Admission is free.

The Cesária Évora Orchestra features the musicians who had regularly accompanied the legendary Cesaria Evora. The band includes Khaly on piano, Totinho on saxophone, Miroca on percussion, Zé Paris on bass and a few others. The Cesaria Evora Orchestra played its first concert at the 2014 Gamboa Festival in Praia as a tribute to the iconic singer and her tremendous achievements, especially as the international Ambassador of Cape Verdean music. The band includes two top vocalists, Nancy Vieira and Jenifer Solidade.

Mayra Andrade will present her fourth album, Lovely Difficult. She performs a mix of pop, reggae and Cape Verdean roots music. Mayra sings in Cape Verdean creole, English and Portuguese.

Dino D’Santiago was born in Portugal but his family roots are in Cape Verde. He joined the group Jaguar in 2004 and released (under the name of Dino SoulMotion) his first solo album untitled Me and my Beloved in 2008 that Tito Paris among others. Together with Virgul (DaWeasel), he founded Nu Soul Family the following year. With the encouragement of his father, Dino began to discover his roots on the island of Santiago. He wanted to fuse African beats with Fado. He changed his stage name to Dino d’Santiago and returned to Cape Verde with feelings, experience and maturity that he put towards his new album, Eva. The album includes collaborations with Sara Tavares, Hernani and Jay.
