Indian American singer and multi-instrumentalist Sheela Bringi and Dhara World Music Quartet are set to perform at Blue Whale in Los Angeles on Oct 21, 2014.
Bringi recently released Incantations, one of the most exciting world music albums produced in the United States this year.
Sheela Bringi will be joined by trumpeter Clinton Patterson, Benjamin J. Shepherd on bass and Gene Coye on drum set. Dhara World Music Quartet plays a fusion of Indian classical and West African music with Vineet Vyas (Canada) on tabla, Rajib Karmakar II (India) on electric sitar, James Waterman (USA) on vibraphone and percussion, and Amir Oosman (Pakistan) on drum set and percussion

I have heard both of these groups perform and wow to get them both on the same night is a real Bonus. Sheela is absolutely fantastic on her own (Vocals and instrumentals) and you add Clinton Pattersons Trumpet and you go oh yeah! now that’s Jazz in world class style and this little known group Dhara World Music Quartet is so polished for having been together for such a short time its remarkably tight. They play some really fast music, play notes on all instruments in unison are on the beat and maintain it consistently and each one these individual dudes soar at what they do. The Tabla player Vineet is phenomenol and plays a really difficult instrument to master and makes it look effortless. The Tabla’s blend extremey well with the drummer (speaking of which is really outstanding) Amir is one the best drummers i have ever heard, and the Vibraphone is one of my favorite instruments to begin with but James also wails on a dumbeck, an African style vibrafone and a Jimbe. The most amazing thing though is the Electric Sitar played by Rajib – you have to see this guy play and you have probably never heard a Sitar played like this. If you like Fusion you will love this line up as they are all just fantastic.
