Indian vocalist Meeta Pandit is set to perform on Saturday, October 10, 7:30pm at St. Peter’s Church in New York.
Meeta Pandit has emerged as a prominent star in the world of classical music. An exponent of the Gwalior gharana (tradition), she is the granddaughter and disciple of Pt. Krishna Rao Shankar Pandit, an important figure in North Indian classical music in the 20th century, and the daughter and disciple of the legendary Pt. L. K. Pandit.
Her melodious and robust voice with a wide range of over three octaves has won her a broad following of music lovers. The rendering of traditional, but increasingly rare, tappa is one of the special offerings in her concerts.
In 2008, she was awarded the highly prestigious ‘Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar’ of the Sangeet Natak Akademi given to promising artists under 35. Accompaniment will be provided by tabla player to be announced and Subhash Dasakkar on harmonium. He recordings include Young Maestros – Meeta Pandit and Tansen.
