For its 20th anniversary, WOMEX 2014 will present in Santiago de Compostela (Spain) a special Downtown Film Screening program titled ‘From Berlin to the World’, open to all delegates and the general public.
WOMEX has invited filmmakers from its hometown Berlin to showcase their work and to participate in an onstage Q&A session. The following films will be presented:
– Journey to Jah, an exploration of current movements in Jamaican music, directed by Noël Dernesch, Moritz Springer.
– Midsummer Night’s Tango, a film about the controversial origin of Argentine tango in Finland, directed by Viviane Blumenschein
– Que Caramba es la Vida, a documentary about female mariachis in Mexico, directed by Doris Dörrie
WOMEX delegates are encouraged to immerse themselves in the world of cinema after the Trade Fair closes each day and before the Showcase Festival gets underway at night. The Downtown Film Screenings will take place at Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea (Galician Centre of Contemporary Art) located at Rúa de Ramón del Valle-Inclán 2, 15703 Santiago de Compostela.
A selection of 12 documentaries will also be screened during the day as part of the IMZ World Music Film program.
