Tuareg artist Nabil Baly Othmani (Algeria) is set to perform on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Barbican in London. A native of Djanet, a small town in the heart of the Sahara that eventually became part of Algeria, emerging young artist Nabil Baly Othmani is the son of the iconic singer Baly Othmani. Nabil is a Tuareg like the majority of the area’s population.

Over the years, Nabil has been nourished by a mixture of Tuareg Berber and Algerian musical heritage, a unique musical crossroad that is reflected in his repertoire. If he writes his text in Tamashek (Tuareg dialect), he accompanies them on the oud (Arab lute) or the electric guitar, mixing Arab-Andalusian rhythms from, Chaabi Algerian or desert blues melodies.

This rich musical heritage mixed with natural ability to fuse traditional rhythms and melodies places Nabil on a unique Saharan musical map. This will be Nabil’s first appearance in the UK.

Nabil released an album titled Awailin with American percussionist Steve Shehan in 2009.
