Celebrated Irish Band The Chieftains Reveals 2014 American Tour Details

The Chieftains, the most prominent Irish traditional music band, have announced details of their 2014 American tour, beginning February 19 in Davis, California.

The program will feature ‘The Troublemaker’s Jig,’ a tribute to Nelson Mandela composed by Chieftains founder and leader Paddy Moloney. This piece is confirmed to appear in an upcoming documentary on the admirable South African leader. The Chieftains will also perform Bochas (“Song of Hope” which Moloney performed at Ground Zero in New York in the weeks following 9/11.

The Chieftains will perform songs from their most recent albums, San Patricio (2010) and Voice of Ages (2012) as well as classic songs from throughout their 50 + year history, including selections from their Grammy winning 1995 album The Long Black Veil. On the suite from The Long Journey Home, including ‘Shenandoah’ and ‘Anthem,’ The Chieftains will be joined by a local choral group in each city throughout the tour.

The 2014 tour will feature an additional roster of surprise guests in each city. The lineup includes Paddy Moloney on uilleann pipes, tin whistle; Kevin Conneff on bodhran, vocals
Matt Molloy on flute; Jon Pilatzke on fiddle, dance; Triona Marshall on harp, keyboards;
Tara Breen on fiddle, saxophone; Tim Edey on guitar, mandolin; Alyth McCormack on vocals, percussion; Cara Butler on dance; and Nathan Pilatzke on dance.
