Vejer Flamenco Expands Its Reach With Tradition and Contemporary Perspectives

The fifth edition of the Vejer Flamenco will take place in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain, from July 8 to 11, with a program that balances flamenco tradition and contemporary artistic approaches. The event is supported by the Diputación de Cádiz through its Provincial Culture Foundation and by the Vejer Town Council.

Festival organizers unveiled this year’s lineup during a presentation attended by Culture Deputy Vanesa Beltrán, Vejer Mayor Antonio González Mellado, and festival director Charo Cruz. Artists El Mawy, Ale Suárez, and Soleá Gatica also attended.

Beltrán highlighted the festival’s combination of flamenco roots and contemporary expression, while González Mellado credited its continued growth to a mix of established and emerging artists, its gender-conscious programming, and institutional support. Meanwhile, Cruz emphasized the event’s commitment to artistic evolution and younger generations while maintaining a strong connection to flamenco culture.

The main concert series will open on July 8 with Manuela Carpio and her production Fiesta Gitana. The following day, pianist Andrés Barrios will present KM. 0, a project that combines flamenco with contemporary sounds. On July 10, Águeda Saavedra will perform Re(vuelta). The festival will conclude on July 11 with El Yiyo and his show A Mi Aire.

In addition, the festival’s late-night “Verbena Popular” series will focus on younger audiences and flamenco-influenced contemporary projects. Performances will feature El Mawy and Ale Suárez on July 9, El Cañejo on July 10, and Rave Calé alongside Soleá Gatica on July 11. Each evening will also include a set from DJ Fiebre.

The program further includes Voy A Bailarte Un Cuento, a family-oriented production scheduled for July 9, 10, and 11. The show combines storytelling, guitar, singing, and dance to create an accessible cultural experience for audiences of all ages.

Festival activities will center on Parque de los Remedios and will extend to the Muralla de la Segur, Plaza de España, and streets throughout Vejer’s historic district. Tickets are available through the official festival website, Vejer Flamenco, as well as at the Museum of History and Archaeology and the festival box office before each performance.
