Cante Flamenco, From Madrid to Heaven

SGAE Foundation’s series dedicated to flamenco singers will begin on Tuesday, April 6. The double bill will showcase the talent from Madrid, with the subtitle De Madrid al Cielo (From Madrid to Heaven).

Madrid has been a fundamental location for flamenco since the end of the 19th century, but especially after the 1970s, when tablaos (flamenco nightclubs) experienced a true golden age under the guidance of Paco de Lucía, Camarón, Morente, José Mercé, Paquera de Jerez, Gaspar de Utrera, Farruco, Lebrijano, La Sallago, Manolo Sanlúcar and many others. These artists performed at iconic Madrid venues such as Corral de la Morería, Corral de la Pacheca, Zambra, Duende, Los Canasteros, Cuevas de Nemesio, and Arco de Cuchilleros.

To pay tribute to Madrid’s huge legacy, Cante Flamenco will feature Saúl Quirós and Lucas Carmona.
