Martin Hayes to Perform Via Livestream from Dublin National Concert Hall

Extraordinary Irish fiddler Martin Hayes, founder of The Gloaming, is set to perform on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. The exclusive concert via livestream from Dublin National Concert Hall will feature members of The Gloaming. Hayes’ music is rooted in the Irish tradition, but goes much further, incorporating improvisation, innovative arrangements, jazz, and elements of contemporary classical music.

Martin Hayes says about this performance: “The sound of a fiddle is more than just the instrument itself, it is the instrument in relationship to the space in which it is being played; the room is also your instrument.

I love playing Dublin’s National Concert Hall. It inspires me and draws music out of me in a way that allows me to explore the subtle and powerful beauty of the melodies with real freedom.

I will be accompanied by two wonderful musicians: pianist Cormac McCarthy and concertina, harmonium and bouzouki player Brian Donnellan. I look forward to exploring these melodies and sharing with you the background, history and stories of the tunes and the people behind them.”
