Estudiantina Invasora

The Estudiantina Invasora is a group of university students dressed in traditional Cuban university clothes, traveling from place to place in order to have some fun and at the same time earn a couple of bucks. The Estudiantina Invasora tradition began in Cuba at the end of the 19th century in the eastern part of the Island (Santiago de Cuba).

As a legendary Cuban band, the Estudiantina Invasora has transmitted its traditional repertoire of the Son, such as guaracha, danzón and contradanza. They come from the Guantánamo province, the birthplace of the Son as well. Considered a national treasure of Cuban song, Estudiantina Invasora is actually directed by Inaudi Paisán, the trumpeter of the band. Naturally, his band has seen many members, but there is still one remaining member who was part of the initial group. At 86 years of age, Mr. Roberto Nápoles continues as the acoustic bass player.

The instruments used by Estudiantina Invasora are: guitars, tres, acoustic bass, trumpet, maracas, claves, güiros as well as pailas.
