The Rough Guide series ventures into the world of unusual collaborations, unreleased pieces and undiscovered world music acts. The Rough Guide to Undiscovered World (World Music Network RGNET909CD, 2012 )
All the tracks included in this collection were entered into World Music Network’s (the record label that produces the Rough Guide albums) groundbreaking ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition. Via its online forum, artists from all over the globe can visit the website, upload a track and drive support via social media platforms. The winning tracks from this competition are featured on The Rough Guide to Undiscovered World and will considered for other World Music Network projects. This exclusive approach is meant to promote contemporary world music straight from the source.
Artists featured on The Rough Guide To Undiscovered World include Chlopcy Kontra Basia, a Polish folk-jazz band composed of female lead singer and clarinetist Basia and a two-part male rhythm section.
‘Hondo’ by Monoswezi mixes Scandinavian jazz and minimalism with traditional music from Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
