Brazilian Star Bebel Gilberto to Perform at 2012 SummerStage APAP Showcase

The SummerStage APAP Showcase will feature Brazilian superstar, Bebel Gilberto and acclaimed jazz vocalist, Gregory Porter as well as other guests for a special night of performances that will offer audiences a preview of the upcoming 2012 season of SummerStage. This special event organized by City Parks Foundation will take place at the Highline Ballroom on Thursday, January 5, 2012.

Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Bebel Gilberto has taken the legacy of the music from Brazil’s Bahia region to the dance floor, earning worldwide success. She attracts all that hear her with a sound that is deeply rooted in Brazil’s musical traditions, but distinctly her own. Her most recent album is All in One (Verve Records, 2009) Catch her in this rare club performance.

With a voice that can caress or confront, embrace or exhort, Gregory Porter exhibits an incredible degree of vocal mastery. Jazz legend, Wynton Marsalis has gone on to call him “a fantastic young singer.”

SummerStage presented by AT&T, a program of City Parks Foundation, is New York’s largest free performing arts festival. SummerStage annually presents over 100 performances ranging from world music, American pop, Latin to dance, spoken word and theater in eighteen parks throughout the five boroughs.

City Parks Foundation (CPF) is the only independent, nonprofit organization to offer park programs throughout the five boroughs of New York City. CPF works in over 750 parks citywide, presenting a broad range of free arts, sports, and education programs that empower citizens to support their parks on a local level.
