Ukulele Fire

Brittni Paiva

Four Strings: The Fire Within (Talmidim Productions TPCD0909, 2010)

Brittni Paiva is a 21 year old ukulele virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist from Hawaii. Her musical influences include jazz, rock, Spanish flamenco, the musics of Brazil and Japan as well as classical music. She plays a custom-built 4-string tenor KoAloha ukulele.  "I enjoy playing the ukulele because it’s small and unassuming, easy to carry around, and can play anything that other instruments can!," says Brittni.

Hew new recording is titled Four Strings: The Fire Within. Brittni chose a mix of classics, covers and original material that showcase her talent as an ukulele performer. The best known pieces are  “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” and Carlos Santana’s Latin rock classic “Europa”, although the best pieces are Brittini’s compositions. The overall feel is that the album is targeting the easy listening smooth jazz market. Brittni has tremendous potential and I hope she manages to escape the smooth jazz trap and connects with other producers and musicians in the new acoustic scene in the U.S. mainland.

Four Strings: The Fire Within is a promising album by one of the finest ukulele musicians in Hawaii.
