Formidable Paquito D’Rivera Quintet Opens Wisconsin Union Theater’s Isthmus Jazz Series

Opening this season’s Isthmus Jazz Series with one of this year’s most anticipated concerts, Latin jazz great Paquito D’Rivera brings his esteemed quintet to the Wisconsin Union Theater on Saturday, November 17, at 8 pm.
 
 With nine Grammies, a National Medal for the Arts and an NEA designation as Jazz Master, this clarinet and saxophone player has created more than 30 albums and collaborated with numerous major musicians.
 
 Playing a vibrant blend of jazz, tropical, and traditional Cuban music, D’Rivera is performing with Oscar Stagnaro on the bass, Diego Urcola on trumpet and trombone, Mark Walker on the drums and Alex Brown on the piano. The first three have been playing with his quintet for more than fifteen years while Brown, who has won numerous musical awards, is an exciting new addition.The concert is sponsored by the Wisconsin Union Theater Committee and supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin.
