¡Globalquerque! World Music Festival Begins this Week

globalquerque_1Albuquerque (New Mexico), USA – ¡Globalquerque! is New Mexico’s annual celebration of world music and culture. This year’s edition will be held 21 and 22, 2007 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Some of the highlights of the 2007 lineup include Mickey Hart’s Global Drum Project with Zakir Hussain, Giovanni Hidalgo and Sikiru Adepoju (USA/India/Puerto Rico/Nigeria), Baka Beyond (UK/Cameroon), Fiamma Fumana (Italy), Ilgi (Latvia), Yungchen Lhamo (Tibet), visionary Lakota/Anishinabe hoop dancer and indigenous Northern Plains flute player Kevin Locke, Afro-Colombian legend Petrona Martínez and her 7 piece ensemble, Moroccan Gnawa star Hassan Hakmoun, Koko Taylor and Her Blues Machine, and Mande Djele kora master Lakandia Cissoko.

¡Globalquerque! is a weeklong, statewide celebration of international culture with elements spanning the entire state, culminating in the two-day festival presented in partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center. The festival includes educational workshops, community outreach events, foreign films, a global village and the best in world music on three distinct stages.
