Legendary Colombian Folk Song Composer Dies at 92

Colombia – Maestro José Benito Barros Palomino died in the city of Santa Marta on May 12. he was regarded by most Colombian music critics as one of the most important composers of Colombian popular music of all times.He was born in El Banco (Magdalena) and left an impressive cultural legacy of music, with over 800 musical works, including “La Piragua”, “Navidad Negra”, “La Llorona Loca”, “El Alegre Pescador”, “El Gallo Tuerto”, “Pesares”, “El Guereguere”, “Momposina”, “Busco tu Recuerdo, “Violencia”, “Estas Delirando”, “Las Pilanderas”, “El Vaquero”, etc.

 

Maestro Barros songs in the musical genres of cumbia, porro, merengue, currulao, paseo, bolero and tango.
