Bodega Rock Me

Bodega

Bodega (Greentrax CDTRAX295, 2006)

Bodega is one of the new sensations in Scottish music. The group is formed by young talented musicians who play traditional music with new arrangements, using Gaelic and English lyrics.

What characterizes Bodega and differentiates them from other groups doing similar work are the intelligently crafted arrangements, with room for improvisation, and the combination of traditional instruments like clarsach (harp), fiddles, accordion, pipes and whistles with world percussion and American folk.

Scotland seems to be going through a period of excellence in folk music thanks to the work of several institutions, including the National Centre of Excellence for Traditional Music. All of the members of Bodega studied at the venerable institution.

The members of Bodega are: Norrie MacIver on guitar and jembe; Gillian Chalmers on pipes, whistles and fiddle; Ross Cooper on fiddle; June Naylor on clarsach;  and Tia Files on guitar, bass, snare drum and jembe.

A keeper.
