Tropical Folk and Roots Festival in the Canary Islands

La Laguna (Tenerife, Canary Islands), Spain – The eighth edition of the “Tropical Folk y Raíces” world music festival, will be held May 18 – 21, 2006. The festival is organized by city of La Laguna and the Tropical beer company. La Laguna is a city located in the island of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands.

The artists scheduled this year are Malian musician Toumani Diabate (May 18 at 21:00), accompanied by the Symmetric Orchestra; Armenian multi-instrumentalist Arto Tunçboyaciyan (May 19 at 21:00); world beat Oojami, featuring Turkish and north African influences as well as whirling dervishes (May 20 – 21:00); and Kajeem, from Ivory Coast, mixing ragga, reggae, and soul (May 21 – 21:00). Tropical Folk y Raíces was created in 1999, with the intention of showcasing world music.

The tickets cost 10 euros and are available at Discos Sonora (Santa Cruz), Alta Fidelidad (La Laguna) and at La Laboral’s box office only on the concert date.
