Tanzania is located in eastern Africa, bordering Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Lake Victoria, Kenya, the Indian Ocean, Mozambique, Malawi Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Tanzanian Musical Genres

Taraab – A form of classical Arabic music developed in East Africa, especially rooted in Zanzibar (Tanzania). Arabic music was transported to East Africa by merchants through the Indian Ocean. Taraab incorporates the concept of mystic trance. The orchestras are similar to Egyptian ensembles with violins, ouds, tambourines, darbukas and qanun.
