Gambia is located in western Africa, bordered by Senegal.

Traditionally, Gambian music was performer by jalis (griots). Jalis are singer-storytellers and instrumentalists who plays the kora, bala (balafon) and the bolonbata. Some famous jalis include Foday Musa Suso, Bai Konte, Papa Susso, Amadu Bansang Jobarteh, Alhaji Bai Konte, Dembo Konte, Ma Lamini Jobate and Doudou M’Boob.
