Australasian World Music Expo 2009 Will Showcase the Roots Music of the Australia-Pacific Region

The Australasian World Music Expo (AWME) will take place in Melbourne from 19-22 November, 2009. Now in its second year, AWME is the Australia-Pacific region's premier music industry conference and showcase of Indigenous, roots and world music, and a major event which cements Melbourne's reputation as Australia's live music capital.
 
 Performing at AWME 2009 will be Blue King Brown, Archie Roach, The Pigram Brothers (Australia), Toguna (Reunion Islands/France), Batucada Sound Machine (New Zealand), Dya Singh World Music Group and Djan Djan featuring Jeff Lang (Australia), Mamadou Diabate (Mali) and Bobby Singh (India/Australia), Little Bushman (New Zealand), Tumi (South Africa), Shakura Stringband (Vanuatu), Grace Barbe (Seychelles/Australia), Mihirangi (New Zealand/Australia), Tama Waipara (New Zealand), Moab Stringband (Papua New Guinea), Noreum Machi (South Korea), Laya Film Project (India), Narasirato Pan Pipes (Solomon Islands), Public Opinion Afro Orchestra and San Lazaro, plus many other exciting local and international artists to be announced.

WOMEX 2009 Announces The Great Nordic Night Opening Concert

WOMEX announced today a special, exclusive event for the Opening Concert - the Great Nordic Night, presented in association with the Danish Folk Council. The event wil take place Wednesday, 28 October 2009 at 20:00 Copenhagen Concert Center (Koncerthuset)/Studio 1. Koncerthuset is Danish Broadcasting's newly-inaugurated concert hall. All WOMEX delegates are invited, and some tickets will be sold to the public.

 

In the Great Nordic Night, an all-star Nordic band will take to the stage with artists from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Samiland and Greenland. Danish fiddler Harald Haugaard has created and directs this exclusive concert experience.

WOMEX Announces Second Set of Showcases Selected for 2008 Conference

WOMEX Announces 90% Trade Fair Stands Booked Already

Berlin, Germany - It's early June and the 300 WOMEX Trade Fair stands are nearly gone: only 10% are left. WOMEX is the world's biggest Trade Fair marketplace for world music. The Trade Fair will be split into 2 equal-sized halls this year.

WOMEX 08 will be taking place in Sevilla, Andalusia (Spain) from Wednesday, 29 October - Sunday, 2 November.

Submission Deadline for WOMEX 2008 Showcase in Three Weeks

Berlin, Germany - The deadline for WOMEX 2008 is 18 April 2008, only 3 weeks away. Due to the online process, there will be no way to post late entries.

WOMEX is the largest international world music conference,  where artists play to an audience of 1000 concert and festival bookers (2007 figures).

The WOMEX 2008 dates were revealed today. WOMEX 08 will be taking place in Sevilla, Andalusia, Spain from Wednesday, 29 October - Sunday, 2 November.

The Worldwide Music Expo, WOMEX. is the largest world music trade show, showcase and a great networking point. It is exclusively dedicated to world, roots, folk, ethnic, traditional and local music of all kinds.

WOMEX 2007 Another Record Breaker for the World Music Expo

ConferencesThe largest international world music conference, WOMEX, had another record year. The 13th edition, held in Sevilla (Spain), saw registrations up 10%; the trade fair stands up 20% with 25% more exhibiting companies, Conferences, Film Screenings and 52 Showcase acts with 350 artists from 42 countries on 5 stages.
 
 More than 2,800 delegates from all over the world gathered for 5 days of talk, trade, music and camaraderie. For the first time the nightly showcases were presented in the city centre, fully integrating this jewel of Andalusia with the thousands of international delegates of WOMEX.

Changes in WOMEX 2007 Program

ConferencesSevilla, Spain - The WOMEX 2007 Opening is tomorrow, and delegates are already arriving in Sevilla. Due to unfortunate visa issues, the Mastaki Bafa band will not be appearing on Thursday evening. They will replaced by Vieux Farka Touré (Mali). Mastaki and his guitar will still be present at WOMEX 07, and he will be performing a few songs at the special Central African Networking Session, which will be held Saturday 12:00 – 13:00 Mezquita Room (FIBES), Introducing Central Africa: The Artists and Professionals Discuss their Challenges.
