Biography:

Just when you think that Brazil must surely have exhausted its supply of irresistibly jazzy, funky, sexy, soulful electro-pop singer- songwriters, someone like CeU comes along and makes you think that maybe that particular well is bottomless after all.

The creative universe of this young composer, author, and performer is at the meeting point between the Afro-Brazilian tradition and modern urban sounds, a privileged place far away from fads and cliches, which contrasts with the current artificial and stereotyped productions seen in Brazil.

Ceu's sound is very particular; at first you'll have difficulty defining it, but as soon as you hear another of her songs you'll no doubt know it is her. The first aspect of her singing that stands out is her enchanting voice, it will woo you though its mellow sound, that dribbles your conventional idea of Brazilian music.

This new artist, though reserved, is very determined, never losing sight of her music. Despite her young age she already reached the maturity seen in established composers and performers, i.e. her song "Lenda" is a tribute to sensuality and harmony, where the song is reduced to three fundamental elements: voice, melody, and a meticulous musical arrangement.

Her divine voice was never as well served as with musical producer Beto Vilares, responsible for a modern electro-acoustic soundscape, an elegant, yet minimalist stile going straight to the essential aspects of her compositions. Additionally, Antonio Pinto, the composer of the musical score for two Oscar nominated movies, Central Station (1999) and City of God (2003), produced two songs from C?e, Ceu's album.

The result is a beautiful recording, where the elegance of the musical arrangements transforms the electronic into regional rhythms, finding the perfect balance between electronic textures and traditional Brazilian sounds. Each one of the songs on the CD, directed by Beto Vilares and Ceu begins with inspiring melodies, where the tempo is given either by a solo instrument or by groovy programmed rhythms. Mixtures of influences will astonish you, but not that mysterious when you learn that both of them are known in Sao Paulo as been among the most talented members of the new emerging generation of musicians and producers.
