Courtesy of Teatro Villamarta Sara Baras is a powerful and sensuous artist who has appeared with many of the top flamenco musicians and dancers, including Antonio Canales, Paco Peña and Manuel Morao, and won numerous awards for her dancing and choreography, including the prestigious Premio Max de las Artes Esc?nicas and the Critics? Prize and the Public?s Prize at the Flamenco Festival of Jerez. . After establishing a reputation as a soloist, she formed her own company, Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras, in 1998. In 2002, her 22-member troupe premiered a new work, at Seville's 12th Bienal de Flamenco, with music composed by Manolo Sanlúcar. Ms. Baras portrayed Mariana Pineda, the popular Andalusian heroine whose life story was brought to the stage by writer Federico García Lorca. In 2002, she was named "The Face of Andalucia" by the Tourism Council of the Andalusian government. |
