Senegalese singer-songwriter
Nuru Kane was born and raised in Medina, Dakar, and his distinctive take on
Senegalese music explores the connections between the music of North and West
Africa
Since his performance at Festival in the Desert 2004, Nuru Kane has been attracting much interest. He supported Robert Plant at his closing show at WOMEX 2005 at The Sage, Gateshead on Sunday 30th October. Nuru Kane is now based in Paris (France), where he performs with his group Bayefal Gnawa. Bayefal is a peaceful religious sect in Senegal. Now signed to the Riverboat/World Music Network label, his first album Sigil was released in February 2006. Sigil is a musical journey across the Sahara. This album captures Nuru?s range of influences, from his blues-led solo songs, reminiscent of Ali Farka Toure, through to the driving Gnawa trance that forms the backbone of his pulsating live performances. |
