Cuban-born Yordamis Megret Planes leads one of the hottest and most entertaining timba bands in the New York City area. The Cuban-born vocalist is endowed with a distinct vocal style that feature a strong sense of timing and virtuosity that is firm and uniform, while often inventive and punctuating. The consummate entertainer, Yordamis beauty and elegance allow her to captivate audiences with a contagious charisma and spectacular dancing.
Yordamis' professional career began at the age of 18; although she has been enchanting all kinds of audience since she was a little girl in Guantanamo, Cuba. Her academic studies began at the age of 10, studying piano, guitar and vocals at Regino Eladio Boti in Guantanamo. In 1995, at 18, she graduated from Havana's esteemed music academy, Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA) [National School of Arts]. She began her singing career in 1995 with Ricacha. A year and a half later, Yordamis sang with the salsa group PG, lead by Jose Luis Cortes founder and leader of NG La Banda. It was in 1998 that Yordamis was discovered to join Bamboleo, at the time they were beginning their world wide tours. Yordamis replaced Maria Gutierrez and stayed with the group until 2002. That year she moved to Miami, and later to New Jersey. |
