Fernando Villalona was born in Loma de Cabrera. He made his debut back in the 1970s Fernandito with Los Hijos del Rey with whom he was very successful. Soon he decided to embark on a solo career and since then he has become one of the greatest artists from the Dominican Republic.

He is better known as El Mayimbe.
