Biography:

Born in 1948 in the tiny kingdom of Bhutan, Lama Gyurme was attracted to monastic life from an early age. It was in his youthful days in the monastery that his love of sacred music was revealed.

At the age of 20, he was deemed a "Master of Music," an honor he fully integrated into his religious training as a teacher of the Kagyupa ("transmitted word") Buddhist tradition, Tibet's third-largest monastic order.

A resident in France since 1974 - although he continues to visit Bhutan regularly - Lama Gyurme helped found, and still directs both the Kagyu Dzong Center in Paris and the Vajradhara Ling Center in Normandy.
