Biography:

One of the most influential old time fiddlers around, Bruce Molsky is also a remarkable guitarist, banjoist and singer. His high-spirited music melds the archaic mountain sounds of Appalachia, the power of blues and the rhythmic intricacies of traditional African music.

Among the long list of great players with whom Bruce has performed and recorded are Martin Hayes, Darol Anger, Alasdair Fraser, the Waverly Consort and Mike Seeger. His solo recording Poor Man's Troubles (Rounder) received great praise by the Washington Post, Washington Times, Bluegrass Unlim-ited and others, and Lost Boy (Rounder) has become a staple for old time music enthusiasts everywhere. Bruce has been featured on A Prairie Home Companion and as a guest artist on recordings with Darol Anger and the early music ensemble Hesperus, among many others. He has also been featured in Fiddler Magazine, Acoustic Guitar, Acoustic Musician, the Old Time Herald and Banjo Newsletter.

Bruce has performed extensively at festivals and concert venues, including Lincoln Center and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. He toured the U.K. with internationally acclaimed fiddler Kevin Burke and others on the Fiddles of Fire tour, and was a featured performer at the Fiddles of the World Festival in Nova Scotia in 1999. He is also an accompanist with the percussive dance ensemble Footworks. Bruce has toured frequently in England, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Finland.

Renowned old time musicians Tommy Jarrell and Albert Hash were two of Bruce?s mentors in the Blue Ridge Mountains where he first learned to play. Thanks in part to time spent with these old masters, Bruce has earned numerous awards at fiddle and banjo contests around the south.

Bruce is a highly sought-after fiddle and banjo teacher, and teaches his own intensive fiddle workshop program all over the United States. He is a regular instructor at Augusta Heritage Center, Jay Ungar & Molly Mason?s Ashokan Music Camp, Alasdair Fraser?s Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddle Camp and others.
