Awj performs the traditional Arabic heritage music of the 20th century. A
different musical program is performed each year and with every concert season.
During the Jerusalem Festival of Music 1999, Awj presented traditional Arabic
music, Muwashahat, Taqateq, poems and songs under the supervision of Khaled
Jubran. In 2000, Awj toured Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Birzeit with a new musical
program and presented the program finale at the Jerusalem Festival for Arabic
music and Jazz summer 2000.
The Year 2002 witnessed the birth of another musical program by Awj where they presented the best of Sheikh Imam songs during the Jerusalem Festival Songs of Freedom. The program was presented under the supervision of Samir Joubran. The performance found great popularity due to the outstanding performance and the well-known and popular songs of Sheikh Imam. Under the direction of Ibrahim Atari, Awjpresented a new production of yet another great musician, Sayyed Darweish, during the month of Ramadan (Autumn 2003). Awj consists of six to twelve students of the Oriental department at the National Conservatory of Music, accompanied with teachers and musical guests. Traditional musical instruments used in this performance such as ud, qanun, violin, nay and buzuk in addition to percussion instruments such tableh, daf and mazhar. |
