The second album, Desi Vibes, was gathering momentum as Kebi himself scripted the lyrics and melodies. "The songs were a collection of thoughts and experiences that I myself had experienced…but at the same time the input from the band also proved to be a major driving factor in our development." Sukshinder Shinda, the UK's most prolific Bhangra hit-maker was enlisted through the recording deal set-up via Kiss Records. "Nachde Punjabi" has since become the shining star of the album and the primary cause for its prolific rotation on radio which has helped it become an anthem for Punjabi's everywhere. The album cemented Kebi's dramatic rise in Bhangra when he was presented with an award in 1996 - Movie Magazine's Best Newcomer - another prestigious accolade for the band and their music. The last year has seen Kebi further his musical talent. Working alongside producer/remixer/rapper, Panjabi MC, to guest on the single "Mirza - Part Two" Kebi's vocals introduce the classic story of forbidden love set in the bygone era of Punjabi folklore. The single is featured on PMC's blockbuster album Legalised. The duo united to perform in New York at the "Sound of Brazil (SOB's)"club night "Basement Bhangra" in June 1998 - an exclusive DJ/vocalist/rapper combination. The group disbanded in 2001 and Kebi Dhindsa continued his career as a solo artist. |
