| James Chambers, better known as Jimmy Cliff, was born in St. Catherine, Jamaica, on April 1, 1948. He was a talented youngster, singing at local events and fairs. At 14, he moved to Kingston and took the surname Cliff. Jimmy Cliff recorded two singles that didn't do very well, but he was discovered by Derrick Morgan, who introduced the young musician to Leslie Kong. "Hurricane Hattie," a new single, was an instant hit in Jamaica. | |
