Afro-Cuban Homecoming

CD Reviews

Omar Sosa

Afreecanos (Otá Records, 2008)

Luminary Cuban keyboardist and composer Omar Sosa continuously provides a fascinating exploration of the musics of Africa and its diaspora in the Caribbean and other parts of the Americas. Afreecanos, his latest CD, introduces cutting edge jazz combined with Malian blues, Brazilian rhythms, Flamenco and, naturally the rich tradition of Cuba.

Sosa is undoubtedly one of the most innovative musicians in the adventurous contemporary jazz scene. For Afreecanos he recruited an impressive line-up of international musicians, including well known performers from Cuba, Brazil, West Africa and Europe. The result is a mesmerizing musical jazz voyage across several continents.

Omar Sosa is touring Asia in March and will be performing in North America in April. Catch him if you can.
