Teenage Fiddler Amanda Shaw Releases Pretty Runs Out

Seventeen year-old New Orleans-based fiddler and singer Amanda Shaw brings dazzling new energy to roots-based Louisiana music with her new CD Pretty Runs Out (Rounder Records), which will be available in early January. Working with material that ranges from traditional fiddle tunes to new originals that embrace both country and rock influences, Amanda and her band, The Cute Guys, create a sound and an attitude that are both authentic and bold.

Amanda Shaw is part of a new breed of young, roots-based musicians who have embraced both traditional and pop sounds. At the age of 16, Shaw is a seasoned entertainer with a substantial audience across the southern U.S., and, through her starring role in the IMAX film, Hurricane on the Bayou (released in 2006), is gaining an increasing national presence.

For the past three years, her self-released CD, I'm Not a Bubble Gum Princess, was among the top ten best sellers at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, where she also drew record crowds. She's also received numerous local awards, including a Big Easy Award for Best Female Entertainer when she was only 14. With the release of her Rounder Records debut,  Pretty Runs Out, Shaw is poised to take her dazzling showmanship to the U.S. national stage.
