Soca & Calypso Music Invade New York City With Passion

Events(PRWEB) Saturday March 11th 2006 marks the return of Soca Music to New York City. After a long hiatus, Soca music has found a new home in the heart of New York City in Soca Passion. Soca Passion is a new monthly event which combines live performances with a spirited and energetic dance party. Shows begin Saturday, March 11th and the second Saturday of every month thereafter at 10:00pm. Location: Nikki & Sam - Address: 83 Worth St (between Broadway & Church St.)

Performing live at Soca Passion on March 11th will be VP Records recording artist Bud. Bud will perform his mega hit “Man Ah Bad Man” which topped the Caribbean music charts and is featured on the compilation “Soca 101” which features a selection of the top Soca & Calypso songs of all time. Bud will also perform his latest hit “Fire Me Up” which is already making waves on the Soca music scene and in international carnival festivities.
Until March 11th Soca Passion is offering visitors to its Web site free CDs and music downloads. Soca Passion continues a strong Caribbean heritage that has spread around the world through the success of Soca and Calypso music. The music has gained international recognition with the accomplishments of artists such as Harry Belafonte, The Mighty Sparrow, Arrow, David Rudder and more recently Machel Montano, Rupee and Kevin Lyttle.

There are clubs that play a little Soca music as the night progresses but you would have to dig deep into distant memory to find a party that has focused on Soca & Calypso music. This is a historic time for the art form,” said producer Roger Thomas of Passion Entertainment the company behind Soca Passion. Mr. Thomas is also one of the producers of Reggae Retro, the longest running Reggae party in New York City. “Fans have been waiting a long time for something like this and finally it’s here. Soca music now has a home in the city.”

Soca Passion will be held at the Nikki & Sam’s located at 83 Worth St between Broadway and Church in downtown Manhattan. The event takes place on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Doors open at 10 p.m. Advance tickets for Soca Passion are $12 and can be purchased online at www.SocaPassion.com, www.BrownPaperTickets.com or by calling 718.930.1316.
