World Music institute to Present Masters of African Music

The World Music institute will present top African world music artists in New York City as part of its Masters of African Music series.

Acclaimed Ethiopian acts Mahmoud Ahmed and Hailu Mergia are scheduled to perform on September 15, 2017 at The Town Hall. Both artists appeared in the influential Éthiopiques compilation series that highlighted the finest Ethiopian artists over the past 20 years. Recording available: Ethiopiques, Vol. 7: Ere Mela Mela.

Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 are set to perform on September 20, 2017 at the Brooklyn Bowl. Seun Kuti is one of the sons of Afrobeat trailblazer Fela Kuti. He leads his father’s band Egypt 80. recordings: From Africa With Fury, Seun Kuti + Fela’s Egypt 80, and A Long Way To The Beginning.

Jazz Epistles featuring celebrated South African musicians Abdullah Ibrahim & Ekaya and Hugh Masekela will perform on April 19, 2018 at the BAM Opera House.
