Ani Cordero’s Commitment

Ani Cordero – Querido Mundo

Ani Cordero – Querido Mundo (Ani Cordero, 2017)

Querido Mundo (Dear World in Spanish) is the new album by Puerto Rican singer-songwriter. It’s a recording featuring protest songs as well as love songs, as a reaction to current political turmoil. Ani will present the Querido Mundo with a concert on February 26 at Rockwood in New York City. A tour will follow.

The lyrics are in Spanish, which is her native language, and the music is a mix of pop and indie rock with Latin American musical influences, including Mexican-style cumbia and Puerto Rican rhythms.

With this album, Ami takes the role of an activist, encouraging people to participate in the political process and to have crucial conversations. “I wrote these songs to work in a crowded situation, such as a protest or march, so I started with the rhythms first, and built the arrangements around the rhythmic movement,” says Ani. “I chose to write in Spanish, my first language, because for me it is the language of intimacy and love, the most personal expression I have.”

Ani Cordero’s touring band includes Erich Hubner on guitar, Eileen Willis on accordion and percussionist Scott Kettner (Nation Beat).

The lineup on Querido Mundo includes Ani Cordero on vocals, guitar, keyboards and percussion; Erich Hubner on guitar and bass; Eileen Willis on accordion; Lisette Santiago on congas, bondos, surdo and caixa; Omar Akir Little on trumpet; Troy Simms on saxophone; and Ethan Donaldson on calabash.
